Calling all BAME writers: we are looking for submissions for the next print edition of Bad Form.
The theme of issue 3 will be Crime, but before you panic, we want you to think BIG.
Beyond reviews of upcoming crime novels, we want you to interrogate the concept of crime. The relationship between race and crime and punishment is a long and fraught one, and we feel that this theme deserves better than surface level discussions.
Some topics we would be interested in:
Empire as crime: books on empire, written in the time of empire, or during decolonisation. Decolonisation of curriculums.
POC as criminals: looking into the portrayal of POC as criminals in literature.
Classical crime books: commercial fiction not your thing? Let’s discuss the classics!
Immigration and crime: following the American Dirt catastrophe, what role does literature have to play in the discussion of illegal immigration?
We accept reviews, short stories, and essays, of up to 1,200 words, as well as poetry. As there's been some confusion, we would like to underline that we only accept work from self-defining people of colour / BAME people / people who identify as an ethnic minority. This does include mixed race persons.
If you are interested in submitting, please join our submitters WhatsApp group (pls email firstname.lastname@example.org with your number or slide to our DMs with your number).
DEADLINE: 12th April. Submissions should be made to email@example.com, in .doc or .docx format, double spaced, with name and word count attached.
Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay for successful submissions at this time - Bad Form is entirely self funded by Amy, but we’re hoping to change this soon!
