Grainy In The Ways We Share - Shaquille Khan for the OEB Series

by Shaquille Khan

God is Change.

Octavia Butler

If in the corner morsel of

a lake at rest, a hand

-dipped candle fire

bristles the steel veneer,

where water echoes sky,

the flame to transmute

into wet wick and ripple.

A junction in space to finally

tame the tangle that alien

is human too, extraterrestrial

is outside of earth and

not outside of humanity––why

the neighbour houses down could

be an alien under such skin.

Search for drawls which

fall from the sun, for

your star is my star and this rock

another grain among shores.
